The Role of the Divine Presence
The divine presence, or Brahman, is the absolute reality in Hinduism. It is the underlying ground of all existence, and everything that exists is a manifestation of Brahman. Brahman is both immanent and transcendent, meaning it pervades all of existence while also being beyond it. Hindus believe that everything arises from Brahman and will ultimately return to it.
The concept of Brahman is central to Hinduism and is captured in the famous statement from the Upanishads, “Tat tvam asi” which means “You are That.” This means that each individual soul is a part of the infinite and eternal Brahman. We are all connected to one another and to the entire universe.
The goal of Hindus is to realize their true nature as Brahman. This can be accomplished through various spiritual practices such as yoga, meditation, and study of the scriptures. Once we realize our oneness with Brahman, we will experience complete liberation from all suffering and limitation. We will be able to see the divine presence in all of creation and know that everything is connected. This ultimate state of consciousness is known as moksha.
