What is Aum or Om?

Aum is a sacred sound and symbol in Hinduism. It is considered the most powerful mantra and is used as a prayer to invoke divine protection or blessings. Aum is also known as Om, which is its shortened form. Both Aum and Om are considered to be sacred and have great spiritual significance.

Aum is said to be the sound of the universe and is believed to represent the three major aspects of Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Aum is also thought to represent the four states of consciousness: waking, dreaming, deep sleep, and transcendental state.

The word Aum is often written as Om because it is easier to pronounce. However, some people believe that writing Aum is more powerful because it includes all the letters of the alphabet and thus has more spiritual significance.

Aum is chanted at the beginning and end of Hindu prayers or rituals as a way to invoke divine protection or blessings. It is also often chanted during meditation as a way to still the mind and connect with the divine.

Why is Om Used in all Mantras?

There are many reasons why Om is used in all mantras. First, Om is the sound of the universe, and it represents the divine energy that pervades all of creation. Second, chanting Om helps to align our own energies with the universal energy, promoting balance and harmony within ourselves. Third, when we chant Om, we open ourselves up to receive the blessings of the divine. Lastly, chanting Om can help us to connect with our higher selves and to access the wisdom and guidance that lies within us.
